Brad and Jackie talked to Chris Anderson from The College of Southern Idaho. He told us about al of the exciting stuff coming up at The Herrett Center.

-         “Kick It at the Herrett Center” – Extra planetarium shows will be offered this weekend due to the State Cup Soccer Tournament:

o   Saturday, May 28th: “Dark Matters” (with live sky tour) at 1:00, 2:00, 3:00, 4:00, & 7:00; “Lynyrd Skynyrd: Fly On Free Bird” at 8:15.

o   Sunday, May 29th: “The Dinosaur Chronicles” at 1:00, 2:00, 3:00, & 4:00.

o   Everyone is welcome, regular admission prices apply ($4.50 for adults, $3.50 for seniors, $2.50 for students for “Dark Matters” and “The Dinosaur Chronicles”; $4.50 all ages for “Lynyrd Skynyrd”).

-        Summer Solar Sessions start Wednesday, June 1st

o   Every Wednesday from 1:30 to 3:30 PM until Labor Day (weather permitting)

o   Safe views of the sun’s surface and atmosphere (sunspots, prominences, etc.) through specially-filtered telescopes

o   Views of bright stars and planets with the 24”

o   Free admission

-        Telescope Raffle

o   Win a Meade LXD-55 6” catadioptric (mirror/lens hybrid) telescope with automatic target location and enhanced optical coatings (retail value: $780).

o   Tickets are $5 each, and only 200 will be sold, and they’re going fast! (proceeds to benefit the Herrett Center and the Magic Valley Astronomical Society).  Tickets may be purchased at the Herrett Center or by phone (732-6655).

o   Raffle will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, June 4th (during Western Days).

o   You need not be present to win, but winner is responsible for pick up.

-        Upcoming “Primitive Skills” workshop: “Stone & Bone”

o   Students will build a primitive tool kit including bone awls, needles, obsidian scrapers, fishhooks, hammer stones, and more.

o   The class will meet for five sessions, Monday, June 6th through Friday, June 10th, 6:30 to 9:00 PM.

o   Class fee is $50.

o   Ages: Adults and children over 12 (when accompanied by an adult).
