One of the goals with Sony's reboot of the Spider-Man franchise seems to be setting up as many of the webslinger's nemeses as possible. 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' will feature Paul Giamatti's Rhino, Jamie Foxx's Electro, and Harry (Dane DeHaan) and Norman Osborn (Chris Cooper), with at least one donning the outfit of the Green Goblin. Now Marc Webb revealed another possible bad guy in the movie.

In promoting B.J. Novak's upcoming book 'One More Thing,' Webb tweeted this:

This suggests that Novak is playing Alistair Smythe, who -- in the comic books -- was a wheelchair-bound scientist who eventually transforms himself into the supervillain Spider-Slayer, a character teased in one of those many
newspaper-esque blog posts used as viral marketing for the film.

As Sony has let it be known that they're going to make a movie about the Sinister Six (along with a 'Venom' movie), it seems likely that Novak will have a bigger role in the upcoming 'Spider-Man' movies. That said, there's no word if Novak is contracted for the upcoming sequels, while Smythe never joined up with The Sinister Six in the comics (it's also possible he'll be able to commiserate with Dylan Baker, who played Dr. Curt Connors for Sam Raimi twice, but never got to play The Lizard). We'll have a better idea of the scope of Novak's role when 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' hits theaters May 2.
