Taylor Swift Doesn’t Want to Tell Anyone How to Vote

Pop-country darling Taylor Swift is so busy, you might not think she’d have much time to keep up with current events like the upcoming presidential election. But the ‘Red’ hitmaker says she intends to vote — though she insists she doesn’t want her opinions to influence those who look up to her.

“I follow it, and I try to keep myself as educated and informed as possible,” Swift tells Time magazine, speaking specifically of the presidential race between incumbent Democratic President Barack Obama and Republican challenger Mitt Romney. “But I don’t talk about politics because it might influence other people. And I don’t think that I know enough yet in life to be telling people who to vote for.”

That stands in sharp contrast to some of her country music contemporaries like Hank Williams, Jr., Charlie Daniels, Trace Adkins and Natalie Maines, all of whom have been very public in their various political views. But Swift reiterated her stance during a recent appearance on ‘The Late Show With David Letterman,’ saying, “I feel like at 22, it’s my right to vote, but it’s not my right to tell other people what to do,” to which the normally crusty host offered the young star a fist bump.

Though Swift will vote in the election, she won’t be headed to the polls with everyone else. “I’m going to be out of the country, so I’ll have to get a special form, I think,” she reveals.

The superstar entertainer released her newest album, ‘Red,’ on Oct. 22, and saw 1.2 million in sales in the first week.
