According to some recent research, most Americans wash their hands somewhere between 5 and 15 seconds.

In order to help prevent the spread of germs, you should be washing your hands for a full 20 seconds.

Twenty seconds doesn't sound all that long, does it?  It's probably a lot longer than you think.  Take this simple test to help determine whether or not you're washing your hands long enough.

Play the sound of running water in a sink below.  From the time it starts, to the time it stops is the actual amount of time you should be scrubbing your hands.

The CDC recommends you sing "Happy Birthday" twice to help time your hand washing.
