The animal rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, better known as PETA, does some good work, but it’s the organization’s more absurd stunts that often make headlines — and this one is a prime example.

Citing the suffering of turkeys during the Thanksgiving season, PETA sent a letter to the mayor of Turkey, Texas and asked him to change the town’s name to the tofu-based meat alternative “Tofurky” instead.

Animals rights advocacy group PETA has issued a scathing criticism of beloved video game character Mario in the wake of the new Nintendo 3DS game ‘Super Mario Land 3D’ for powering-up by wearing a “Tanooki suit.”

Named for Tanukis, the raccoon dogs that have long held an important place in Japanese culture, Mario’s “Tanooki suit” has drawn the ire of PETA for promoting the wearing of fur.
