Netflix Instant to Add Subtitles to All Video by 2014

Can we just talk about Netflix for a second, and how friggin' convenient it is? Currently, previous seasons of 'The Walking Dead,' 'Breaking Bad,' 'Mad Men' and 'LOST' are all available for free on Instant, along with some awesome movies like 'Iron Man 2' and 'Thor.' But now Netflix is broadening its online audience by offerring subtitles to all of its available video content.

Do You Use A Media Streamer To Watch TV and Movies? [Poll]

Last year I learned how to stop worrying and cut the cable, and have never looked back. I utilize two Roku media streamers and a computer running Plex to serve all the TVs in my house with television shows and movies and I love it.

But when it comes to streaming media, there are many, many choices. The top two are Roku and the Apple TV, but recently News Corp and British Sky Broadcasting may have just shifted the balance of power.

Are DVDs Going The Way Of Disco?

Last week I took my son Jack to his cousin's birthday party. I was amazed to find a TV/VCR combo that was actually still in use there. I don't have anything against VHS personally, other than it's a horribly antiquated format, but it made me think.

At our house, we don't even have a DVD player, let alone a VCR. We have two digital streaming Roku using Netflix, Hulu, and a media server running Plex. Who needs DVDs anymore?

Learning To Cut The Cable Just Got Better

A few weeks ago I taught you how to stop worrying and cut the cable and only pay $7.99 a month for television. I found a way to make that even better. It's called Plex, and if you have a Roku (like I do) you'll love it.

Plex is basically a media server for all of your movies, music, television shows, and photos, but it does much, much, much more than that as well. And the best part? Plex is totally FREE.

You Can Soon Stream ‘The Artist’ and Other Oscar Contenders on Netflix

Netflix has certainly had its share of woes over the past year, but it recently scored a big victory by signing an exclusive deal with The Weinstein Company — a deal that will allow Netflix to stream flicks from the movie powerhouse well before pay cable networks get their hands on them.

How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Cut The Cable (And You Can Too)

How many times have you been sitting in front of the television and flipping through your 200+ channels only to remark "there's nothing on?" I hate that. There's nothing worse than having all of those channels and not being able to find anything to watch. It's a waste of time and money.

So I cut the cord. Not literally, but I did have a friend once who was so perturbed at his cable service that he actually ripped the coaxial cable out of the wall and cut it. That's a little extreme in my book, but I did find a way to stop paying for cable and switch over to a digital alternative for just $7.99 a month. You can too.

Netflix Scraps Idea for Qwikster DVD-by-Mail Service

Netflix has been doing so much backpedaling lately, it’s surprising the company hasn’t adopted a bicycle for its logo.

In the most recent reversal, Netflix announced Monday that it’s scrapping a plan to split its streaming and DVD-by-mail services into two different companies and would instead keep both under the Netflix name. The abandoned idea would’ve seen the mailed DVD service take on the name Qwikster, with a separate website and separate billing.

Netflix May Have to Pay $100,000 for Qwikster Twitter Account

Chances are good at least one “d’oh!” was uttered in at least one Netflix conference room Tuesday morning.

It seems the company, which on Monday announced it would split up its service and rebrand the DVD-delivery side Qwikster, neglected to lock up the name on Twitter. Now Jason Castillo, who’s owned the @Qwikster name on the microblogging service since April, wants money — big money — to hand it over.

Netflix Customers Upset About Drastic Price Hikes

DVD-by-mail and digital streaming service Netflix has announced a new pricing structure, and its customers are doing the metaphorical version of booing and throwing popcorn at the screen.

People who currently pay $10 for one DVD per month plus unlimited digital streaming will see rates jump to $16, while those who get two DVDs plus streaming will have a new rate of $20, up from $15. The price increases take effect September 1 for existing customers. New subscribers will pay the new prices immediately upon sign-up.

Tennessee Makes Sharing Netflix Passwords Illegal

As of July 1, it will be a crime in the state of Tennessee to use somebody else's login information on sites like Netflix and Rhapsody.

While the legislation is primarily aimed at hackers who steal and sell passwords in bulk, the bill's sponsor Rep. Gerald McCormick acknowledged that, technically, the law also makes it illegal for a wife to use a husband's login information.
