Apple Unveils the New iPad — What Will It Do?

While Wednesday’s roll-out of the new generation of Apple’s iPad didn’t have quite the fanfare of prior events helmed by the company’s late co-founder, Steve Jobs, that doesn’t mean people weren’t paying attention.

Here’s a quick rundown of the announcement.

Generation Z Or The iGeneration?

It occurred to me tonight that my three year old son Jack will never know the world before Steve Jobs changed everything.

Jack knows how to make calls on my iPhone, play Angry Birds on his iPod touch, and can navigate his mom's iPad better than most adults I know. To him, everything is a touch screen and if it's not, it should be. Tonight while using Netflix to watch "Curious George" Jack was actually trying to press the on-screen buttons on the television like it was a giant iPad. To him, that's the way everything should work.

Should Jack's generation be re-dubbed the "iGeneration"?

Flipboard for iPhone: A Beautiful Magazine of Your Social Media

Last Christmas I gave my wife an iPad. Most apps at that time weren't universal, and there were a few on the iPad that I really wanted on my iPhone. The list wasn't that long: Pages, Garage Band, and Flipboard. Earlier this year Apple released both Pages and Garage Band for the iPhone, but I had yet to see Flipboard.

Yesterday that changed.

My Thoughts on Steve Jobs

Update: Steve Jobs passed away. 1955 - 2011. RIP.

Apple Computers was founded by the “Steves”—Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak—in a garage in Cupertino, California in 1976. Back in those days Apple wasn’t selling beautiful iPhones, iPads, or iPods, they were peddling the Apple I, a personal computer kit each hand-built by Steve Wozniak. The Apple I went on sale in 1976 for $666.66 (certainly some sort of in-joke between Jobs and Wozniak).

More Than One-Third of People Use Their iPad in the Bathroom

Might want to run a quick sanitizing wipe over your friend's iPad next time you're at their house and want to mess around with it.

A new survey by Staples fromMashable found that 35% of iPad owners use it when they're on the toilet.  They didn't find out how many people sanitize it afterward . . . but I'm guessing that number is somewhere close to ZERO.

20% of People Take Their iPads to the Bathroom

Everyone I know with an iPad really likes using it in bed, and really likes using it on the couch . . . but truly LOVES using it on the toilet.  Which is why I find this survey so SHOCKING.  And also why I wash my hands after touching anyone else's iPad.

In a new survey, only 20% of iPad owners, or one out of five, admit that they regularly take their iPads with them into the bathroom.

But other than that complete lie, the survey backs up the idea that people really do fall in love with their iPads.
