In the fall of 2008, Anthony began complaining of leg pains. His father had suffered growing pains in his legs as a child, so his parents, Alex and Mary Cecile, were not overly concerned. When flu-like symptoms landed Anthony in his pediatrician's office, he was referred to a local children's hospital for testing. There, tests revealed that Anthony suffered from a brain tumor.

St. Jude isn't exclusively a cancer research hospital. St. Jude is getting some big help in its HIV and AIDS research program.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is giving the research hospital more that $650,000 to help mothers and children fight the disease.
