TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KLIX) – The Twin Falls City Council on Monday congratulated a local athlete for a job well done representing his country and his community on the world stage.

In turn, Will Brown, who competed in the Rio 2016 Summer Olympic Games, thanked the council for its support during his adventure in South America.

“I just want to thank you for the recognition and support you’ve given me the last few weeks,” Brown said. “It was an honor to represent my community and country.”

Brown, 24, is a member of the USA Shooting Team and competed in the 10-meter air pistol and 50-meter pistol events. He placed 12th in the 10-meter, and 10th in the 50-meter.

Among other things, the city' proclamation thanking Brown reads: “Will’s participation in the Olympic Games assisted in achieving their mission to contribute to building a peaceful and better world by educating youth through sport practiced without discrimination of any kind and in the Olympic spirit, which requires mutual understanding with a spirit of friendship, solidarity and fair play.”

Mayor Shawn Barigar said he previously asked Brown if he was going to stick around Rio after the games to take in some of its sights, but the Olympian quickly responded that he was not.

“I assume that means you’re happy to be home,” Barigar said.
