Despite the creative and critical resurgence The CW's 'Supernatural' has enjoyed in its eighth season, successfully besting the "Friday Night Death Slot" by moving to Wednesdays alongside freshman hit 'Arrow,' there's no denying the series has gotten somewhat long in the tooth. While the series prepares to make its January 16 return with "Torn and Frayed," is there a good chance we can expect a ninth season for Sam and Dean Winchester next fall? The CW speaks out on 'Supernatural' season 9 inside!

Sam and Dean Winchester will get back to business hunting demons in 'Supernatural's upcoming January 16 return "Torn and Frayed," but the bigger question remains if the duo have additional seasons in them beyond the current. Series stars Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles remain under contract through a ninth season, though CW president Mark Pedowitz spoke to attendees of the Television Critics Association press tour elaborating on the likelihood of a ninth year order

"We are pleased with how Wednesday night has worked out with 'Arrow' and 'Supernatural,'" said the network president. "Creatively, the show is in a great place. There’s always a good shot [it could return]. Previously, at The CW's May 2012 Upfront presentation, Pedowitz also said “I’m not looking at season 8 as the final year in any way, shape or form.”
