Super Smash Bros. Trailer: Little Mac Enters the Ring

The green gloved champion of Punch-Out!! is back to test his fists against Master Hand, Mario, Samus, Mega Man, Donkey Kong and the rest of Nintendo’s top fighters in the next Super Smash Bros.
The setting is all too familiar — Little Mac is undergoing rigorous training by Doc Louis for a big fight — only this time, it’s not Bald Bull or King Hippo that he’s up against. Little Mac intends to take it to the super heavyweight division. Mac might have appeared before in Super Smash Bros. Brawl as an Assist Trophy, but this time he’s the real deal. With the inclusion of Little Mac to the main roster, we would assume that one or two of Mac’s top rivals, such as Mr. Sandman or Super Macho Man, will be included as Assist Trophy’s to take up the swinging champion’s spot.
As hilariously shown in the trailer, Mac is one of the shorter opponents on the roster, but one uppercut from him will remind the rest of the cast that he is to be taken seriously. Little Mac can slip hits into the foreground to help dodge and can uppercut directly into the air to propel himself upward and maximize his jumping distance.
Much like the Punch-Out!! games of old, Mac has a knockout meter that will fill up throughout the fight. Once the meter is full, Mac can perform one-hit knockouts that are on par with Captain Falcon’s signature maneuver, but a whole lot faster in its delivery. The inclusion of Little Mac diminishes the chance of seeing Knuckles the Echidna being added, since Knuckles would have used similar punching mechanics. Nevertheless, we’ll keep our fingers crossed.
The next entry of the Super Smash Bros. franchise is due out sometime in 2014 (we’d take an educated guess and say the 2014 holiday season) for both the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U.
