Students Learn from Local Professionals about ‘Careers on Wheels’

KIMBERLY, Idaho (KLIX) – Students from elementary schools across Twin Falls visited the College of Southern Idaho Expo Center on Wednesday to learn from many different professionals.

The “Careers on Wheels” event was aimed to draw students’ attention to the many different career opportunities available to them as they get older.

“This gives students many different careers to learn about,” said Pam Hill, a teacher at Sawtooth Elementary. “We’re not making them choose a career right now, but to get the process started.”

Presenters from local businesses came to the event with their vehicles – some with large utility trucks, others with simple cars – to let the students see what vehicle a certain professional may drive. Students said they liked the big trucks, a motorcycle from a St. Luke’s employee, and News Radio 1310’s colorful, station-branded Nissan.

The fifth-graders learned about the education involved in pursuing certain careers, demands and responsibilities, work environment and many other things.

Several students said they were interested in journalism as a possible career, others said they were interested to work in law enforcement, the medical field or in the athletic arena.

Hill said events like this give students "a wide variety of careers to keep in mind."
