DIETRICH, Idaho (AP) — The state's Professional Standards Commission has decided to take no action against a south-central Idaho science teacher following complaints by parents about a sex education class.

Idaho Department of Education Spokeswoman Melissa McGrath tells The Times-News in a story on Friday that the commission determined there aren't sufficient grounds to pursue disciplinary measures against Tim McDaniel. The parents filed a complaint with the commission in March contending McDaniel was sharing student information, teaching different forms of birth control and promoting a political candidate on school grounds.

McDaniel says he taught material from a school-approved biology textbook for 17 years and the complaints filed in March were the first against him. However, McDaniel says he's not teaching about the human reproductive system in his biology class this year.
