Project Morpheus's development is in full force. Sony is going to be having a VR demo event at next month's Game Developers Conference and we're super excited.

With the Oculus Rift hoarding most of the VR spotlight throughout 2014, Sony is finally getting in on the action with its PlayStation 4-based virtual reality headset, Project Morpheus. We're still in the dark as to what it has planned, but hopefully there will be some light shed when Sony's demo event starts Game Developers Conference in San Francisco next month, Polygon reports.

"We have a good system," said Shuhei Yoshida, the President of Sony's Worldwide Studios. "People enjoy the Morpheus demo, but it's not enough. It's coming close, but there isn't enough in terms of creating real experiences with a sense of presence."

"You really need to be able to feel that you are standing on the edge of a cliff. Tech-wise, there are a few things we want to include to really nail it from a hardware and system software standpoint."

One of the coolest things about both of these virtual reality headsets is that they have the potential to be used outside of the gaming community (which is probably why Facebook bought the Oculus Rift for a whopping $2 billion). You could easily use these headsets for NASA simulations or to train surgeons.

We'll just have to wait for March 3 to see what Sony brings to the VR table when its Project Morpheus event begins at this year's Game Developers Conference.
