It seems that the Final Fantasy party has ended now that Sony will be selling its shares of Square Enix.

Sony Corporation has shocked the gaming world by announcing that it will be selling all of its shares that it holds of Square Enix Holdings Co., Ltd., Siliconera reports. Sony Computer Entertainment Inc., one of Sony's many fully-owned subsidiaries, has made a deal with Japanese brokerage firm, SMBC Nikko Securities Inc., that they will be selling the 9.5 million shares they hold within Square Enix. This will result in the selling of roughly 4.8 billion yen, approximately $47 million, being added to Sony's first quarter profits of 2014.

This should be of no surprise, Square Enix has been launching many of its recent titles with multi-platform releases -- long gone are the days when PlayStation consoles used to exclusively launch Square Enix games. If only Square Enix were to finally give the fans what they have been demanding for years and delivered a remake of Final Fantasy VII as a PS4 exclusive they might have been able to convince Sony to stay.
