With most Magic Valley Schools kicking off their school season on Tuesday, September 4th, the Idaho Transportation Department is urging drivers to slow down and be more aware of pedestrians in all school zones.

I know we've all gotten into some bad habits over the summer break, but please slow down. These are our children we are protecting.

And I guarantee that schools zones will be patrolled by local law enforcement starting Tuesday. Drivers who fail to slow down in school zone will pay larger fines as a result of legislation passed in 2008. Idaho laws require a minimum fine of $75, plus $41.50 in court costs for school-zone violations.

So just slow down in school zones. It doesn't matter how late you are for work, school, the big meeting or whatever, it's the right thing to do for you and for our sons and daughters.

You don't want to kill anyone, do you?
