Last night when I got home I went to the mailbox and had the obligatory chat with my neighbor who was working in his yard.

"Ya know..." he said, "They really outta make that base jumping thing illegal.  All it does is get people hurt and cost us money and resources when someone needs bailed out."  He was obviously referring to the incident yesterday where two base jumpers were injured at the Perrine Bridge

He has a point.  It is dangerous.  Sometimes, people get hurt.  People have died.

But isn't that the risk that we're allowed to take with anything we do?  Hunters, campers, mountain climbers; we all take risks doing things we love.

I've seen sad stories about people who have drowned while white water rafting.  Do we make that illegal as well?

What do you think?  Should we ban base jumping from the bridge?
