On Friday, July 29, 2016 at approximately 10:42 p.m., the Idaho State Police investigated a two-vehicle, injury crash westbound I-86 at milepost 9.

Johan Nees, 48, of Calgary, Alberta was westbound on I-86 in a 2008 Nissan Pathfinder pulling a camp trailer.  Alden Ridley, 31, of Mountain Home, was also westbound in a 2015 Freightliner semi pulling a box trailer.  Nees was driving approximately 30 miles an hour in the right lane with his hazard lights on because a wheel on the trailer had broken.

Ridley failed to slow for the Nissan and struck the trailer from behind.  The camp trailer was destroyed and the Nissan rolled, coming to rest underneath the semi.  Both vehicles came to rest off the right shoulder.  All occupants were wearing their seatbelts.  A passenger in Nees' vehicle, Iuliana Duna, 37, of Calgary, Alberta, was taken to Portneuf Medical Center in Pocatello by air ambulance.  Ridley, Nees, and three juvenile passengers in Nees' vehicle were transported to Cassia Regional Medical Center in Burley by ground ambulance.

Both lanes were blocked for approximately twenty minutes, and the right lane was blocked for approximately three hours while crews worked to clear the scene.

The crash is under investigation by the Idaho State Police.
