There are plenty of legal cute and creative ways to give and get gifts over the Holiday season. The 'Secret Sister' gift exchange on Facebook is not one of those ways.

Basically the way it works is that you mail a gift card to one 'Secret Sister' and then by the magic of Christmas you receive back at least 6 gifts for yourself. Science? Math? Scam!

The Facebook post usually looks like the one above or similar to below -

With all the negativity around us, let’s create some positivity over the next few weeks leading up to the holidays! Anyone interested in a holiday gift exchange? It doesn’t matter where you live, you are welcome to join. I need at least 6 (or more!!) ladies of any age to participate in a secret sister gift exchange. You only have to buy ONE gift valued at $10 or more and send it to ONE secret sister. Afterwards, you will receive between 6 and 36 gifts in return!! It all depends how many ladies join. Let me know if you are interested and I will send you the information!
Comment below if you’re interested and I’ll send you the details!

Any time you share your personal information online, especially with a stranger, you are putting that information and yourself in danger.

The US Postal Service also defines this type of message sending as illegal because it is a chain mail that promises a substantial return to the senders. Don't participate in illegal activities! Just do what normal people do and either do a secret Santa, white elephant gift party, or put presents under the tree and open them on Christmas. If you feel the need to do something crazy online with Christmas Gifts there is also a gift exchange site called Elfster that may fulfill your needs.
