Like any good college student, Scotty McCreery did his homework before ultimately deciding to stick with his gig at SeaWorld. Despite a whirlwind of controversy and protest in the wake of the ‘Blackfish’ documentary, the ‘American Idol’ winner insists “fans will have a a show!”

McCreery is booked to perform at SeaWorld in Orlando Fla. on Saturday (March 1) as part of the marine park’s Bands, Brews & BBQ concert series.

Although more than a few country stars have pulled out in light of the documentary, McCreery is sticking to his commitment. He says that while he has seen ‘Blackfish,’ he wanted to make sure he knew SeaWorld’s take on the debate, as well.

“You know, there’s two sides to every story, and I’ve done my research and feel like it’s a fine decision to go out there and play SeaWorld,” says McCreery, who clearly put his college studying skills to the test.

He tells Electric Barnyard, “That was my biggest thing about this whole thing — just making sure I knew both sides of the story.”

‘Blackfish’ raises the issue of animal rights, highlighting concerns about how humane it is to keep killer whales in captivity. When CNN first aired the film in October, it immediately sparked controversy. As a result, more than a few country stars decided to pull out of planned shows at the park, including Trace AdkinsTrisha YearwoodMartina McBride and even Willie Nelson.

But after doing his own research, McCreery will follow the likes of Alan Jackson and Kid Rock, who kicked off the park’s winter concert series at the beginning of February. Gretchen Wilson has also put a show on the books, even going so far as to defend her performance via Twitter.
