Not only will Magic Valley area voters have candidates to choose on May 15th but they will also need to make a decision on some school bond issues.  Voters in the Filer School District will be voting on a 2-year, $500,000 supplemental levy which will allow the district to maintain current operations.

A failure of the supplemental levy will mean a half-million dollar cut in the budget for the next two school years, and the possible end to six job positions, one of which could be a full time music teacher, and the possible elimination of the mid-day kindergarten busing.  Homeowners would pay a little over 5 dollars per month for $100,000 dollar property valuation, a little more for owners of businesses and farmland.  This will be the first time in 15 years the Filer school district has pursued a bond election.   Over the last three years the Filer district has lost $1.4-million dollars in state funding.  Other school districts in the valley seeking supplemental levies include Castleford School District seeking a two year $300,000 dollar levy…Richfield a two year $225,000 levy…Shoshone is seeking a two-year $300,000 dollar levy…Hazelton voters in the Valley School District will decide on a two-year $300,000 levy…and the Wendel School District is seeking a two year $155,000 levy.
