Salmon Man Admits to Killing Emmett Man

EMMETT, Idaho (AP) — A central Idaho man has pleaded guilty to killing a 78-year-old Emmett man in July. Gem County Prosecutor Richard Linville said 59-year-old Douglas Anderson of Salmon pleaded guilty yesterday to second-degree murder in the death of Darole Carpenter.

Prosecutors alleged Anderson defrauded Carpenter of $30,000 and then beat and stabbed him to death to cover up the crime. Anderson was arrested in September after investigators found Carpenter's blood in Anderson's vehicle.

Anderson also pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of theft by false promise for forging his wife's signature on a promissory note for $230,000 with which he was supposed to buy cattle and hay. Linville says he will recommend 30 years in prison, with at least 15 years fixed and $300,000 in restitution when Anderson is sentenced on March 25.
