Russell Brand just wanted to see his wife Kate Perry perform in Japan. Unfortunately for the funnyman, Japanese authorities weren't amused by his criminal record, and on Sunday the 35-year-old was deported from the island nation.

Perry took to Twitter to explain what had gone down:

So...my husband just got deported from Japan. I am so. sad. I brought him all this way to show him my favorite place," she tweeted. "It was for priors from over 10 years ago! ...But of COURSE I [love] my Japanese fans & the show #MUSTGOON no matter the daily aftershocks or husband kidnappings!"

Brand is just the latest in a long list of celebrities whose behavior has been deemed so abhorrent that they were banned from an entire nation. Read on to see who else got the big boot.

Paris Hilton -- Like Brand, she was kicked out of Japan for having prior drug arrests back home.

Yusaf Islam -- Islam was denied entry to the United States and sent back to his native England after his name popped up on the no fly list in 2004. This would have never happened if Islam still went by his given name of Steven Demetre Georgiou -- or his stage name of Cat Stevens.

Charlize Theron -- The South African-born actress claims she was expelled from the U.S. in 1994 after being involved with a documentary that criticized the U.S.'s relationship with Cuba. The INS eventually let her back in, obviously, because she is now an American citizen.

Anna Chapman -- Sexy Russian spy Anna Chapman was deported from the United States last year for being a sexy Russian spy.

Shyne -- The aspiring rapper and Puff Daddy-protege served nine years in prison after shooting up a New York City nightclub. After his release, Shyne was deported to his native Belize. Life in the Central American nation shouldn't be too bad for the 32-year-old, since his dad is currently the Prime Minister.

Paul McCartney -- The music legend has managed to get deported from both Germany and Japan during his storied career. Japan gave him the boot in 1980 after he tried to bring a half a pound of weed with him on a tour of the island nation. In 1960, German authorities throw out the then-fledgling rock star because he was caught burning a condom, of all things.
