A PG-13 'RoboCop' remake? That's what we're getting, and the first trailer plays up the familiar elements ("oh look, ED-209"), but also seems to put the focus on the role of free will in Alex Murphy (played by Joel Kinnaman), who becomes part man, part machine, and all cop.

The trailer also showcases the supporting cast, which includes Michael Keaton, Samuel L. Jackson, Gary Oldman, Jay Baruchel and more, and walks through how Murphy was selected, and how he went from the original silver look to the new black design. We also see plenty of action. Die hard fans of the original are already grousing about the trailer (which didn't seem to win over any converts at Comic-Con), but with an off-season release date, this could be better than expected.

'RoboCop' opens in theaters February 7. Here's the film's synopsis:

In RoboCop, the year is 2029 and multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the centre of robot technology. Their drones are winning American wars around the globe and now they want to bring this technology to the home front. Alex Murphy is a loving husband, father and good cop doing his best to stem the tide of crime and corruption in Detroit. After he is critically injured in the line of duty, OmniCorp utilises their remarkable science of robotics to save Alex's life. He returns to the streets of his beloved city with amazing new abilities, but with issues a regular man has never had to face before.
