IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (AP) — The return of missionaries that are now heading off to college has caused enrollment at Brigham Young University-Idaho to rise. The Post Register reports that on-campus enrollment at the university is up 6 percent from last year. BYU-Idaho spokesman Marc Stevens says the Rexburg campus has seen an increase of more than 800 students since 2014. In 2012, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints dropped its minimum age requirement for missionaries from 19 to 18 for men, and 21 to 19 for women.

That caused the university's enrollment to dip, as students headed out into missions rather than straight to college. But now, those students are making their return. Stevens says the university is also expanding its online courses and degree programs.
