Do you remember the episode of X-Files that was set in Fairfield, Idaho? That's right. Mulder and Scully explored our beloved state in one of the first episodes way back when. Now that I've had the chance to live in Idaho myself, I'm surprised they didn't shoot every episode here.

I couldn't remember how early on in X-Files that they did this episode, but I thought it was pretty early on. I was right. It was the 2nd season and it was called "Fearful Symmetry". Here's the synopsis from Wikipedia.

In Fairfield, Idaho, two janitors witness an invisible force storm down a city street; a road worker is later killed by the force on the highway. The next day, an elephant suddenly materializes in front of an oncoming big rig. The driver manages to stop in time, but the elephant soon collapses and dies, over forty miles away from where it disappeared the night before at the Fairfield Zoo.

There's no zoo in Fairfield unless dogs that are allowed to run loose count.

This episode wasn't the first X-Files to be filmed in our state. There was the one in the first season (episode #2 I think) called "Deep Throat" that was set in a fictional Air Force base near Pocatello.

If you think I'm dorky for remembering all these X-Files Idaho references, I'm not nearly as dorky as the dudes that created a map of Idaho to document these episodes. What nerds.
