Refugee Center Opponents File New Ballot Measure

TWIN FALLS, Idaho (AP) — Proponents of a ballot initiative to ban refugee centers in Twin Falls County have filed an updated version of the measure after a county prosecutor called the previous one unconstitutional.

The Times-News reports the petition filed by Rick Martin, who leads a group seeking to end College of Southern Idaho's refugee center, calls for refugee centers throughout the county to be banned. The new version offers language explaining the reason for the initiative, saying the federal refugee program is operated by "the Global Left" and "religious frauds."

Prosecutor Grant Loebs wrote in a letter to the county clerk's office that the new measure still "contains additional legal problems." The petition still needs approval from County Clerk Kristina Glascock and 3,800 signatures to get the measure on the May ballot.
