You knew it was inevitable, the PS Vita Slim is expected to be hitting North America and Europe.

According to IGN, invites were sent by Sony to a briefing meeting that will be held on Jan. 30. Sony's invitation contains the following phrase: "Following the biggest launch in PlayStation history, join us for an introduction to the slimmest." Given that the PS Vita Slim (aka the PS Vita 2000) has already been released in Japan last October, an overseas release just a few months later would seem probable.

Japan's Vita Slim is about 20 percent thinner and 15 percent lighter than the standard model. Trading out its previous OLED display for a 5-inch LCD, the Slim's battery is expected to last about an hour longer as well. Given Sony's history with releasing slim versions of their previous systems, an American release of the PS Vita Slim is more than likely. It's not like Sony's already planning a PS4 slim, or even another version of the PlayStation 3 slim so soon. Hopefully the wait for the new model won't be long in the U.S.
