Getting a head start in education these days is vital to helping your child get a head start and making sure they don't start behind their classmates when the time comes for kindergarten. Getting a child enrolled in preschool is something many parents make a priority and finding the right one can determine the type of early education they receive. When it comes to early education, which state offers the best, which state offers the worst, and how does Idaho compare?

Getting into the right preschool is important, but where you live will affect your options as well. WalletHub recently released a list ranking the best and worst states for early education and did so using a few categories, such as access, quality, and resources and economic support. Using these criteria, it was determined that Arkansas offers the best early education, with Nebraska coming in second and Maryland rounding out the bottom three. The worst state for early education is Indiana, with Minnesota being the second worst, and Massachusetts being the third worst.

Early education in Idaho is not good. Out of a possible 51 states, since Washington DC is included, Idaho comes in at 45 which is good to be the seventh worst state. Idaho ranks 42 in access, 30 in quality, and 46 in resources and economic support. That last one is the answer to most of the problems. The resources and money are not put into early education to help our little ones get a good start, and they suffer later on because of it. Idaho is second to last in 3-and 4-year-olds enrolled in pre-k, with only Nevada being worse. Idaho is also tied for last in reported spending per child in preschool.

If you have a little one that is getting ready for preschool, don't be surprised or upset if they aren't learning as much as you hoped. The state needs to make education for our children more of a priority and should invest more in their education, or soon Idaho could be even lower on this list.
