NAMPA, Idaho (AP) — Nampa police are seeking the help of the public — the Boy Scouts, specifically — in solving the case of an Idaho man who was found dead in Oregon.

The Idaho Statesman reports that investigators have learned Boy Scouts were in the neighborhood collecting food the morning 46-year-old Jeffrey Dyer disappeared from his home. Police are still trying to figure out what troop the scouts were with. Dyer was reported as a possible kidnap victim about 9:30 a.m. on Nov. 8. The preliminary investigation indicated two people entered Dyer's home, and police believe he was taken against his will.

His car was also missing. Dyer's body was found in the vehicle the next day, across the Oregon border in Ontario. The case is being investigated as a homicide. It's not clear what the relationship between Dyer and the people who entered his home might have been, but police have said it was not a random attack.
