The longtime director of the Pokemon series admits that he, like most of us, would like to see a new version of Pokemon Snap.

In an interview with CVG, Junichi Masuda, the game director of the Pokemon video game series, said that he wants to see a new take on the Nintendo 64 classic, Pokemon Snap. Junichi Masuda was the director of Pokemon X, Y, Black, White, Diamond, Pearl, FireRed, LeafGreen, Ruby and Sapphire. With such a colorful repertoire of Pokemon games behind him, we're just as enthusiastic about a new Pokemon Snap game as he is. Masuda admits that Snap was one of the only Pokemon games not originally developed by Game Freak, which hints that there are possible licensing issues with the project.

"As a player I definitely want to play a cool new version of Pokemon Snap, but at the same time I also think if it was just a remake with better graphics I don't think it would be as interesting as a lot of people are imagining," Masuda said. "If someone was to end up developing it they'd have to come up with some cool ideas to really make it a good game for the current generation.

"It's sort of like what I was saying about Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. If it was just a direct port that would be kind of neat as well, but having new elements is definitely important."

The format is staring you right in the face, Mr. Masuda: The Wii U. Just third-party it up and remake Pokemon Snap using the Wii U GamePad as a camera. If it does well, which is almost guaranteed like all things Pokemon, you could do a sequel with Pokemon #151-700, but this probably won't happen, because... Nintendo.

Meanwhile, Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire will launch on Nov. 21 for Nintendo 3DS.

Not having a new Pokemon Snap on the Wii U seems very sinister:
