Pocatello Exceeds Pollution Limit in Release Into River
POCATELLO, Idaho (AP) — Officials in the southeastern city of Pocatello say a water pollution control facility discharged water with elevated levels of bacteria into the Portneuf River.
The city in a notice on Monday required by its National Pollution Discharge Permit said wastewater returned to the river on March 31 exceeded acceptable levels for E. coli bacteria.
The city tells the Idaho State Journal (http://bit.ly/1S7B7wY) that the problem was corrected the next day and the facility brought back into compliance.
Public Works Director Michael R. Jaglowski says the city has taken steps to prevent a future occurrence of the problem.
