Two new character trailers have been released for Persona 4 Arena Ultimax, highlighting Kanji Tatsumi and Naoto Shirogane.

While both characters are Yasogami High School students who first appeared in Persona 4, their personalities and play-styles couldn’t be more different. Kanji is an insecure tough guy with a huge health bar who uses his size and power (as well as a folding chair) to overwhelm opponents, while Naoto is a much quicker character who uses traps and a pistol to create space and keep opponents away from her. Interestingly, both characters are plagued by gender identity issues, a common theme in the Persona series. Kanji hides his love of sewing and other traditionally feminine pursuits behind a tough-guy facade, while Naoto pretends to be a male for the majority of Persona 4 before accepting herself as a woman.

Naoto and Knaji represent two of thirteen characters returning to Persona 4 Arena Ultimax from its predecessor, Persona 4 Arena. Nineteen characters in total have been announced, with three of them console exclusives. We’ll have to wait to see if more fighters will be coming to the game before it launches in the US on Sept. 30 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
