PAYETTE, Idaho (AP) — A 25-year-old Payette man has pleaded guilty to strangling to death his former girlfriend.

KTVB-TV reports in a story on Wednesday that Cody Hays earlier this month pleaded guilty to second-degree murder. Police say he killed 23-year-old Amber Leann Schwenn in July. He was arrested July 28 after Schwenn's mother called police when her daughter didn't show up for work. Police say Hays killed Schwenn when she came to his apartment to drop of their toddler.

Hays was then spotted driving Schwenn's car. A police report says he told officers they could find Schwenn's body at his apartment and that he had killed her. Hays is scheduled to be sentenced April 7. He faces up to life in prison.
