COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho (AP) — A man whose dog was shot and killed by a northern Idaho police officer has filed a $350,000 claim against the city of Coeur d'Alene.

The claim filed Tuesday by Craig Jones also names the Coeur d'Alene Police Department and Officer David Kelley in seeking damages for loss and pain in the July 9 killing of a 2-year-old black Labrador mix named Arfee.

The claim gives the city 90 days to settle or Jones and his Washington state attorney, Adam Karp, say they will file a federal lawsuit.

An internal police review released in September found Kelley violated policy in shooting the dog that was in a parked van.

City Attorney Mike Gridley tells The Spokesman-Review (http://bit.ly/1rfdSS0) that the City Council will discuss the claim in an upcoming executive session.
