DECLO, Idaho (KLIX) – An overnight closure is planned beginning Monday night on Interstate 84 between the Heyburn and Declo interchanges – exits 211 and 216, respectively.

The closure is to allow the contractor for the Snake River bridge replacement project to alter lanes onto the new westbound bridge, according to the Idaho Transportation Department.

All traffic will be detoured beginning 10 p.m. Monday, with lanes opening again by 6 a.m. Tuesday. When traffic resumes in the area, it’ll be traveling across the new Snake River bridge.

During the closure, traffic heading westbound will detour at Exit 216, south to Declo on Idaho 77, then west to Burley on Idaho 8 and return to I-84 through Heyburn. Eastbound traffic will take Exit 211, detour north on Idaho 24 to Rupert, then east and south on Idaho 25 to I-84.

Following Tuesday’s switch, a 65-mph speed limit will be in effect through the construction zone, according to ITD. A 12-foot width limit will be in effect for the westbound lane, and a 15-foot width limit for the eastbound lane.

Close to 15,000 vehicles travel this section of the interstate daily. The old 1,100-foot bridges were constructed in 1960, but in recent years were considered structurally deficient.

According to ITD, the new bridges will be slightly longer than their predecessors, feature wider shoulders, include fewer piers in the water, and increase vertical clearance for river traffic.
