BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Gov. C.L. "Butch" Otter has appointed Democratic Boise City Council President Maryanne Jordan to fill an empty Idaho Senate seat.

Jordan replaces former Democratic Sen. Elliot Werk, who left in February to serve on the state tax commission after working in the Idaho Legislature for more than 12 years.  Jordan was one of three nominees submitted by the District 17 Democratic Legislative Committee. She has served on the Boise City Council since 2003.

Otter praised Jordan's long history of public service. She holds a bachelor's degree in political science from San Jose State University and is a graduate of the Citizen's Police Academy and Citizen's Law Academy.
