BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Authorities have identified a western Idaho man as the person who died following a series of crashes involving at least six vehicles on Interstate 84 near the Idaho-Oregon border.

Idaho State Police say 27-year-old Kyle Pratt of New Plymouth was caught up in the crashes in the foggy and icy conditions on Monday at about 6:45 a.m.

Police say he got out of his vehicle to help others, but that more crashes occurred and Pratt was struck by several vehicles. He died at the scene.

Police say at least one eastbound vehicle ended up in the westbound lanes, causing both eastbound and westbound lanes of the highway to be closed.

Police reopened the highway about five hours after the first collision.
