ELMORE COUNTY -- The Elmore County Sheriff's Office wants to remind you not to touch any suspicious items you discover in the desert or on public lands. KTVB reports This comes after  an active artillery round was discovered over the weekend by an Mountain Home Air Force Base Airman who walking his dog in an area along the Snake River, known as Hole 13.

The Sheriff's Office says the Airman discovered the artillery round over a cliff near the Snake River. Mountain Home Air Force Bases Bomb Tech's from the Explosive Ordinance Division  determined it was a M107- 155 mm artillery round that contained 15 pounds of high explosives and the device had a live fuse that was still intact.

The Bomb Tech's destroyed the round after it was deemed unstable to be removed. Officials say to the best of their knowledge, Mountain Home Air Force Base has not used any live artillery rounds like this since the 1960's.
