NAMPA, Idaho (AP) — Tests show that Interstate 84, between Nampa and Caldwell, does not need a full rebuild and less extensive repairs may be done to improve conditions, according to the Idaho Transportation Department.

The Idaho Press-Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/1B0QSLX ) that the department's District 3 engineer Amy Revis says the road's base is in good condition and that most of the road damage is limited to the uppermost layer of asphalt.

But, Nampa Chamber of Commerce representative Dave Dykstra says the road must be rebuilt in order to handle traffic.

Officials say the funding for the $120 million project isn't there and instead proposed a $15 million grinding and resurfacing project, set to begin in 2020.

The agency says it is still determining how to address deeper cracks in the road.
