Offensive Rock Formation to be Removed by Search and Rescue

An impromptu joint training session between Twin Falls County and Jerome County Search and Rescue teams will be conducted this weekend.  The training is in response to someone’s unwanted artwork above Pillar Falls.

On Sunday visitors at Shoshone Falls reported to a park employee that there was a rock formation on a sand bar below the observation deck in the shape of a penis.  The unfortunate display is about 20 feet and clearly visible to spectators.

Plans have been made for the counties’ teams to reach Pillar Falls by boat, portage above the falls, and remove the rocks on Saturday.  Search and Rescue members are volunteers; most of them are employed full time.  They respond to crisis situations with no warning, leaving jobs and dropping the task at hand to rescue someone in danger.  That is certainly not the case here, and “although the rock formation is unsightly and in very poor taste, it is not reasonable to stress our resources to undergo this task in an urgent manner,” states Sheriff Carter.

Visitors to Shoshone Falls can expect to see the formation gone by Saturday afternoon.
