North Idaho Teen Finds Body in Ditch
LEWISTON, Idaho (AP) — Northern Idaho authorities are investigating the death of a 47-year-old Elk City man found in a ditch in Juliaetta.
The Latah County Sheriff's Office tells the Lewiston Tribune (http://bit.ly/1JLHdlj) that the body of Steven A. Zimmerman was found at about 3:45 p.m. Monday in a 3-foot-deep drainage ditch by a high school student walking home from school.
Emergency responders say Zimmerman was dead at the scene.
Police say Zimmerman was last seen alive Monday morning after midnight leaving a Juliaetta tavern on foot.
Authorities say from the tavern he walked east and appears to have fallen and struck his head on a sewer grate. Police say he got up and started walking again before falling into the drainage ditch.
An autopsy is scheduled to determine the cause of death.
