SANDPOINT, Idaho (AP) — A northern Idaho middle school teacher has retired after sending inappropriate text messages of a sexual nature to a student.

The Bonner County Daily Bee reports in a story on Thursday that the leave of absence granted to Sandpoint Middle School teacher Rod Swerin in August has transitioned into retirement. Lake Pend Oreille School District Superintendent Shawn Woodward says the 17-year district employee won't be returning.

A police report obtained by the newspaper quotes text messages Swerin sent. In the texts, Swerin elaborates on a dream he had where the student is clothed but another student in the dream is not. Bonner County Prosecutor Louis Marshall describes the text messages as inappropriate and disturbing. But Marshall says the texts don't meet requirements to charge Swerin with a crime.
