OROFINO, Idaho (AP) — A northern Idaho man who used a gun to rob an Orofino hotel and tied up the clerk has been sentenced to 20 years in prison.

The Lewiston Tribune reports that 48-year-old Christopher J. Jennings received the sentence Tuesday in 2nd District Court. Jennings in August pleaded guilty to burglary, robbery, second-degree kidnapping and possession of methamphetamine. Police in December followed tracks in the snow starting at the back door of the motel that led to where Jennings had parked his car, and stuck in the snow and ice was a cigarette butt that led to DNA evidence.

Jennings' attorney described Jennings as a kind and decent human being caught up with drugs. The prosecutor highlighted Jennings criminal record going back to 1993.
