LEWISTON, Idaho (AP) — A 6-year-old western Idaho boy who suffered a rattlesnake bite on his big toe is recovering in the intensive care unit at a Spokane hospital.

Courtney Hines of Culdesac tells the Lewiston Tribune that her son, Kaden McKenzie, was bitten on Saturday afternoon at the beach, about nine miles south of Asotin. Hines says her son suffered excruciating pain and was taken to an area hospital before being flown to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane.

She says he won't need surgery and he may be able to come home by the end of the week. Hines says it'll be a few weeks before he's fully recuperated and he doesn't want to go back to that beach. Hines says someone at the beach killed the snake.
