One of the highlights of this year’s E3 presentation was the demo of Alien: Isolation on the Oculus Rift. Fans in attendance and at home were thrilled by the prospect of a first-person shooter set in the Alien universe running on the new VR headset, but according to developer Creative Assembly, the demo does not represent an actual game, and Alien: Isolation is not planned to be Rift-compatibile.

In the above tweet by the Alien: Isolation team, the developer shot down expectations of a VR version of the game. Publisher Sega reiterated the unfortunate point in a statement to Eurogamer; "At present, it's just a prototype and does not represent a game currently in development at this point in time. It's a truly amazing experience though and brings the game to life in ways we could not have imagined when we started the project. It's one of the most terrifying demos you'll ever play."

While the omission of Rift compliance is disappointing, and the E3 demo now feels like a cruel tease, Alien: Isolation is still shaping up to be an impressive next-gen title. 2013’s Aliens: Colonial Marines was a huge let-down, leaving Xenomorph fans clamoring for a decent title set in the Sigourney Weaver-fronted movie universe. Hopefully, Alien: Isolation will fit that bill when it releases on Oct. 7 for Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and PC.
