BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Idaho's top legal officer says there is not enough evidence to charge two sheriff's deputies involved in the fatal shooting of a rancher who was killed after one of his bulls was hit by a car.

Family members have said the Nov. 1 shooting of 62-year-old Jack Yantis was unjustified.

Yantis arrived with a rifle just as deputies decided to put down the animal. Authorities have said there was an altercation, and Yantis and two deputies all fired their weapons.

Attorney General Lawrence Wasden, who had acted as a special prosecutor in the case, announced Friday that his office had concluded its four-month investigation and that there "is no other way to describe what happened that day as anything but tragic and unfortunate for the Yanitis family and the entire community."
