We have heard what some of Nintendo's intentions are in regards to its next console to be released after the Wii U and 3DS.

Bloomberg reports that Nintendo president Satoru Iwata claims that Nintendo will develop a completely new game console for emerging markets instead of making cheaper versions of its existing ones. Nintendo remains adamant about not releasing its games on smartphones because there is not a solid, sustainable way to steadily make money in the smartphone market, which fluctuates through multiple cycles of success and decline. The focus on a console for an emerging market stays in line with what Iwata previously said in a recent presentation where he would like Nintendo to leapfrog past mobile and wearable technology into the next plateau of must-have entertainment and convenience.

“We want to make new things, with new thinking rather than a cheaper version of what we currently have,” Iwata said. “The product and price balance must be made from scratch.”

We still think this coincides with the "Quality of Life" program Iwata has been wanting to launch, which would help orient its users to better and healthier lifestyle decisions. It also lines up with earlier reports of Nintendo readying new hardware for E3. While we likely won't see those good in the U.S., at least we know there was some substance to the rumors.
