BOISE, Idaho (AP) — The Nampa School District is proposing cutting jobs at elementary and secondary schools in the wake of budgeting errors that have led to financial difficulties. The Idaho Statesman reports the district on Friday told employs in an email the cuts will save about $2 million and help avoid a deficit in the 2013-2014 school year.

The district hopes to cut spending by $3 million in all to deal with a $5.1 million deficit. The district says it’s looking at cutting 15 secondary teaching positions in noncore subjects through attrition.

It also wants to drop up to 15 teachers from 14 elementary schools through attrition. Another 17.5 jobs would be reduced in counseling, music and physical education positions in elementary schools. The district has about 15,200 students and 800 instructors.
