LEWISTON, Idaho (AP) — The Idaho State Police is investigating an apparent suicide at the Nez Perce County Jail in Lewiston. The sheriff's office says detention officers found 52-year-old Jeffrey Admyers of Lewiston unconscious at around 1:30 a.m. Saturday.

Deputies administered CPR until an ambulance arrived. Admyers was taken to St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, where he died Saturday evening. Lt. Jack McGee tells The Lewiston Tribune that Admyers had been in the jail for three days on a probation violation and was awaiting transfer to the Idaho Department of Correction in Boise.

Admyers' death is the second apparent suicide in the jail in eight months. After 19-year-old Chad Gardner of Coeur d'Alene died on Nov. 2, the jail hired three more detention officers. Officers check on inmates every 30 minutes.
